NZ Art Lecture #1 on the Cruise Ship – Peter Max (and my ignorance living through the 60s and 70s 😜)
One of the things I have enjoyed on the Ship has been the art lectures, auctions, and perusing the art gallery of the Park West Gallery here on the ship. The first lecture was on Peter Max. I had seen some of his work before but was ignorant of the affect he had on the…

NZ – Unexpected Events
Today was day 11 of our cruise to NZ. While we were dining, the captain addressed the ship over the intercom. He said we are turning around and heading back to Hawai’i because of a medical emergency involving one of the passengers. We left Maui last evening during dinner. Apparently, we will rendezvous with a…

NZ Oahu
We arrived in Honolulu yesterday morning, and I took this picture as I was walking off my breakfast, as I need to do on most days and after most meals here on the ship. In fact, I try to walk after every meal in my effort to maintain my weight loss and my attempt to…

NZ – The Journey Begins
After three months, we are finally at the beginning of our much anticipated adventure. Like our last cruise of several years ago, we are starting off with a train ride. Rather than flying to the cruise port, in this case, San Francisco, we choose to take the train. We find it so much more relaxing…

Le Parole per Dirlo, la Guerra Fuori e Dentro di Noi
I just finished this book by Franco di Mare. In English, the title and subtitle, as I would translate it, is “The Words to Express, the War Outside and Inside of Us.” It is a book by the first Italian journalist to cover the conflict from Sarajevo after the breakup of the former Yugoslavia (the…

Mr. Fix It
We were having dinner at our neighbor’s house one evening (something I try to avoid as much as possible) when my wife commented on the handymanship of the host, Bill. Now I will be the first to admit to not being every wife’s vision of a handyman. Those who know me would, in fact, find…

One of the problems of getting old, at least for me, is sleeping like shit. If I’m not waking up to pee, I’m waking up with my nose hurting because it broke my fall while I was jogging in the dark and had an encounter of the face to badly maintained sidewalk nature (or perhaps it was the skinned knee, elbow or palm that disrupts my shut-eye). But this night it was about something a bit less ignominious, writing a blog. The primary topic of discussion that I thought might be interesting is my upcoming trip with my wife. A twenty- three day cruise to New Zealand, which I proposed to her as a birthday present (a clever bit of subterfuge on my part as, you see, I am actually celebrating my taking this trip sixty years ago, except in reverse from San Francisco to Auckland via Hawaii and Tahiti instead of Wellington to Tahiti, the Panama Canal, Jamaica and Ft. Lauderdale – anyway, an anniversary of sorts.) Oh, and I should mention spending two weeks visiting New Zealand driving from Christchurch around the South Island, crossing by ferry to the North Island, stopping in briefly to the small Burg where I spent four idyllic years as a youth before flying out of Auckland. Of course there will be pictures, as those who know me are aware I do enjoy taking a scenery Pic now and again, so you can enjoy the journey with us. Other than this trip, if you are interested in my other rantings and ravings, you can immerse yourself in my amazing insights as I read, “La Commedia” AKA “The Divine Comedy” (in Italian – or Tuscan as it were as, yes, I am an intrepid Italian beginning learner), and of course being a true oldster one’s musings would not be complete without a thorough going discussion of fascinating health failings.
